The 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport has been revealed, featuring a suspension overhaul that enhances its off-road capabilities. The updated models will begin arriving at dealerships this month. One of the key changes is the increased ground clearance, which now stands at 9.65 inches, a gain of 1.38 inches over the 2026 model.

The 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport models now feature improved approach and departure angles of 25 degrees, up from 23, and a breakover angle of 23 degrees, increased from 20. Honda asserts that these vehicles are their most capable off-road SUVs to date, outperforming competitors like the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road, Subaru Outback Wilderness, and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch.

Key Updates

Rather than simply fitting taller springs, Honda engineers rebuilt the suspension geometry to preserve on-road handling and ride quality. Close to seven in ten of the key suspension pieces were reworked, including the coils, dampers, control arms, sway bars, and steering knuckles.

The forward driveshafts and front subframe were also reworked to make room for the taller ride height and greater wheel travel. In total, 28 suspension and related chassis parts are redesigned, reengineered, or new for 2027. Honda also claims that the changes improve steering feel and response for everyday driving.

Standard Features

The TrailWatch camera system, previously exclusive to the Elite model, is now standard across all TrailSport variants. It provides four distinct views, forward, rearward, side, and a full 360-degree perspective, along with tire placement graphics to assist drivers in handling difficult terrain.

A heated steering wheel, once restricted to the Elite, is now standard on all TrailSport trims. The Blackout Package, available across the lineup, includes black front and rear fascias, black 18-inch alloy wheels, and darkened Honda emblems.

Smoke Blue Pearl, introduced on the 2026 Pilot, replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl in the color options. The Honda Trail Experience (HTX) app, developed with input from over 1,500 TrailSport owners, is also available to enhance off-road adventures.

Commercial Context

The fourth-generation Passport debuted in early 2025 and has posted multiple sales records since, with TrailSport models accounting for more than 80 percent of Passport sales as of June 2026. Production takes place solely at Honda’s Alabama Auto Plant, drawing on parts sourced both domestically and from abroad.
