Hyundai Motor India has revealed additional details about the Bayon’s powertrain and driving controls, focusing on its Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) features. The 1.5-litre petrol engine remains a key component, paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or the IVT automatic transmission. New additions include Dash Boost Mode, Sporty Drive Tech, paddle shifters, and three selectable driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Powertrain and Driving Features

Dash Boost Mode is designed to enhance responsiveness during quick acceleration, particularly for overtaking. The company describes the feature as providing an “instant power boost,” though technical specifics remain undisclosed. The engine produces 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque, matching the same powertrain used in the Creta SUV. Over six lakh vehicles equipped with this engine have been sold in India since 2020, according to local reports.

Sporty Drive Tech complements Dash Boost Mode, aiming to deliver a “sportier and more connected acceleration experience.” The IVT system integrates paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel, allowing drivers to manually adjust gear ratios. The three drive modes can be selected via a steering-mounted button: Eco prioritizes fuel efficiency, Normal balances performance and efficiency, and Sport offers a more responsive driving character.

Interior and Controls

The vehicle’s interior features twin 12.3-inch curved displays, a panoramic sunroof, and a powered driver’s seat. Bose audio system integration enhances the cabin experience. Built on the Global K Enhanced Platform, the Bayon is designed to meet five-star safety standards in India. It has confirmed over 35 standard safety features across variants, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, and Hill-Start Assist Control.

For higher trims, Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS with 23 driver assistance functions will be available. While fuel efficiency figures and acceleration times have not been announced, the combination of the petrol engine, IVT technology, and selectable modes aligns with the automaker’s focus on natural and confident vehicle response in everyday driving.

Launch and Availability

Bookings for the Hyundai Bayon in India are open ahead of its launch on October 26. Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, emphasized the vehicle’s engineering for safety and performance. The Bayon’s blend of familiar powertrain elements with new driving technologies positions it as a tech-forward compact SUV in a competitive market segment.
