The extension was announced via a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), meaning technicians will perform repairs at no cost to owners if their vehicle shows signs of the defect.

Honda and Acura are extending the warranty for cylinder head gaskets to 10 years or 150,000 miles for several popular models. This applies to gas-only and hybrid vehicles made between 2016 and 2026. The extension doubles the standard powertrain warranty for the head gasket, which typically covers vehicles for 5 years or 60,000 miles for Honda and 6 years or 70,000 miles for Acura.

The extension was announced via a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), meaning technicians will perform repairs at no cost to owners if their vehicle shows signs of the defect. This doubles the standard powertrain warranty for the head gasket, which is fully transferable to future owners. The TSB ensures that repairs are covered without the need for a full recall, streamlining the process for both dealers and customers.

The TSB covers a range of models, including the Honda Accord, Civic, and CR-V from 2018 to 2026, and the Acura Integra and ADX from 2023 to 2026. Specifically, the Honda Civic is covered from 2016 to 2026, and the Honda CR-V from 2017 to 2026, ensuring broader coverage across these popular lines.

A failing head gasket can cause coolant leaks into the combustion chambers, leading to issues like engine overheating, cylinder misfires, and an illuminated check engine light. Common indicators of a failing head gasket include unexpected coolant loss without external leaks, cylinder misfires particularly upon cold starts, and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs P0300 through P0304). If secondary damage has occurred, dealers are authorized to replace the cylinder head or engine block as needed, ensuring full repairs.

For owners of older models, Honda is offering a six-month grace period starting in October, allowing repairs until May 31, 2027. This ensures that even vehicles beyond the 10-year limit can still receive warranty coverage. Formal owner notification letters are expected to go out in early October, providing clear instructions on how to take advantage of this extended coverage.
