Volkswagen announced that the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will take over from the ID.4 and ID.5 models beginning in early 2027, marking a new step in the brand’s electric-SUV lineup.

Pricing and market launch

Pre-sales start on October 13 in Germany and several other European markets, with a base price of €42,695. The company says the UK price will sit below £40,000, a figure that should keep local dealers competitive in a crowded electric-SUV segment.

European pricing is reported at roughly £36,200. UK pricing and order dates have not been finalized, but the sub-£40,000 target is expected to attract price-sensitive buyers.

The new electric SUV will be sold alongside the conventional Tiguan, which continues to offer petrol, diesel and hybrid options. More than 950,000 ID.4 and ID.5 units have been produced to date.

Specifications and features

Volkswagen will offer three battery versions, delivering a WLTP-tested range of up to 600km (about 373 miles) depending on the configuration.

With the smaller pack, towing capacity reaches 1,800kg; the larger 77kWh battery raises that figure to 2,000kg. Storage includes a 32-litre front compartment and a rear boot that can hold up to 534 litres.

The trim range consists of Trend, Life, Style and R-Line levels, each adding incremental equipment and styling cues.

Inside, the cabin gains physical buttons for climate control and steering-wheel functions, plus a centre-console controller for audio volume and track selection.

A 10-inch driver display pairs with a 15-inch infotainment screen. Buyers may add a 12-inch passenger display that features a privacy mode to keep its content hidden from the driver.

Standard one-pedal driving is complemented by an optional Connected Travel Assist that can handle lane changes on motorways and recognise traffic lights.

Optional upgrades include front seats with massage and ventilation functions, a Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof and vehicle-to-load capability for external electrical devices.

Production will take place in Emden, Germany, using Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, which underpins the company’s latest electric models.
