The Abarth 600e Competizione marks the brand’s entry into full electric propulsion, and it claims the title of the most powerful Abarth ever built, aimed at drivers who crave track-level excitement while remaining within the limits of a road-legal hatchback. Carlo Abarth’s early life foreshadowed this legacy: even as an 11-year-old, he modified his scooter by wrapping leather belts around its wooden wheels to outpace older children in neighborhood races, a competitive spirit that later led him to victory in an 850-mile race from Vienna to Ostend—on a motorbike with a sidecar.

Power and performance

Under the bonnet sits a permanent-magnet motor that delivers 280 hp, paired with a 54 kWh lithium-ion pack. The powertrain propels the car from standstill to 62 mph in 5.85 seconds, a figure that outpaces every previous Scorpion-badged model released by the marque. This performance eclipses not just Abarth’s own history but also the brand’s most iconic models, including the Cisitalia 204A and the rally-dominating 1000 TC.

Torque peaks at 345 Nm the instant the accelerator is depressed, giving the vehicle an immediate thrust that feels like a traditional sports car launch. To keep that output stable, engineers equipped the system with a dedicated coolant pump and tuned the thermal management strategy so that performance loss is delayed even during aggressive driving sessions. The battery’s cooling system, featuring a high-capacity pump, was specifically calibrated to optimize performance across all driving modes, ensuring the car remains responsive whether in sport mode or during daily commutes.

The battery can travel up to 207 miles on a WLTP cycle, providing a realistic range for daily use. The 54 kWh battery pack alone represents a significant leap from Abarth’s earlier models, which relied on smaller, less efficient energy storage solutions.

Motorsport DNA

Development took place alongside Stellantis Motorsport on a performance-tuned variant of the group’s eCMP platform, known internally as Perfo-eCMP. A joint team of engineers and racing specialists examined every component, searching for the smallest advantage. The collaboration extended beyond chassis tuning to include the motor’s validation, which was tested using Formula E bench technology to simulate real-world track stresses under controlled conditions.

A suspension layout was crafted specifically for the electric drivetrain, maximizing handling precision. A mechanical JTEKT Torsen limited-slip differential was calibrated to temper the motor’s instant torque, improving grip when exiting corners. This mechanical solution was chosen over purely electronic systems to better manage the electric powertrain’s unique characteristics, ensuring stability at the limit without compromising responsiveness.

The large rotors and robust calipers provide strong stopping power and better heat dissipation, allowing the driver to brake hard multiple times per lap without fade. The braking system’s design was directly influenced by motorsport applications, where fade resistance and consistent performance under repeated high-G loads are non-negotiable.

Tyre technology and grip

Michelin supplied the Pilot Sport EV tyres, a compound designed specifically for electric performance. The tread features a softer outer layer combined with a specialised foam core, which yields high cornering traction while also reducing road noise. The dual-compound construction was developed using data harvested from Formula E, where tyre performance under extreme conditions is critical.

Everyday usability and tech

Inside, Alcantara-finished surfaces meet Sabelt-crafted sports seats, creating a cockpit that feels focused yet welcoming for daily commutes. The tactile materials are complemented by a high-resolution touchscreen positioned centrally on the dash, which provides navigation, media, and vehicle settings through an intuitive interface. The driving position, raised for better visibility, also ensures the car remains easy to maneuver in tight urban spaces.

Connectivity options include wireless charging pads and smartphone mirroring, allowing occupants to keep devices powered and integrated without clutter. Safety systems combine adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assistance, delivering a semi-autonomous driving experience that reduces fatigue on longer journeys. The car’s compact dimensions, 4.1 meters long, 1.8 meters wide, and with a turning circle of just 10.5 meters, make it exceptionally maneuverable in city traffic.

To preserve the auditory excitement of a traditional sports car, an augmented sound generator is mounted beneath the rear bumper. It emits a synthetic engine note that gives a familiar cue to the driver, enhancing the overall experience while keeping the electric efficiency intact. The sound system’s placement ensures the artificial engine roar remains audible without compromising aerodynamics or interior comfort.
