Chery reveals Stockman ute specs

Chery Australia has released new specifications for its upcoming Stockman dual-cab ute, including a 34kWh battery, 96km WLTP electric range, and 3495kg braked towing capacity. The Stockman is set to launch on February 1, 2027.
The ute will have a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain, delivering 350kW of power and 800Nm of torque, along with all-wheel drive and off-road tyres. This level of performance is among the highest for an electrified dual-cab available in Australia.
Specifications and Features
The Stockman’s lithium iron phosphate battery has a capacity of 34kWh, with an electric-only driving range of up to 96km under the WLTP test protocol. This replaces earlier information citing up to 100km of electric range under the NEDC standard.
The vehicle uses a double-wishbone front suspension setup and a leaf-sprung rear axle, reinforcing its focus on utility work. Additionally, Chery has confirmed a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch centre touchscreen, and a 14-speaker sound system.
Additionally, the Stockman boasts more than 247mm of ground clearance, allowing it to tackle challenging off-road terrain with ease, and features front, centre, and rear differential locks to enhance its traction and control in difficult driving conditions. The ute’s all-terrain tyres also provide improved grip and stability on various surfaces, making it an ideal choice for buyers who need a vehicle that can handle both on-road and off-road duties.
Market and Competition
Chery has indicated that a petrol plug-in hybrid Stockman will follow the diesel version in 2027.
There has been a lot of interest in the Stockman, with around 10,000 expressions of interest and nearly 2000 dealer-generated pre-orders before the reservation system went live. Online bookings opened on October 1, and those reserving a vehicle can get a $2000 Bunnings voucher and free scheduled servicing.
Customer deliveries are confirmed to start on February 1, 2027. The Stockman will be a key addition to Chery’s Australian line-up as the brand looks to move past just passenger cars and SUVs.
The Stockman’s dimensions are substantial, measuring 5450mm long, 2010mm wide, and 1890mm high, with a cargo tub measuring 1560mm long, 1560mm wide, and 500mm deep. The ute rides on a 3250mm wheelbase, providing a solid foundation for its work-focused design.
It will compete not only with established diesel models including the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, and Mazda BT-50, but also an expanding group of electrified alternatives such as the BYD Shark 6 and other plug-in or battery-electric utes entering the market. The Stockman name was selected following an Australian public naming competition attracting more than 20,000 submissions, with the winning entry intended to evoke the toughness and versatility associated with the Australian stockman. Braked towing capacity has now been listed at 3495kg, effectively matching the 3500kg benchmark established by most mainstream one-tonne utes, while unbraked towing is rated at 750kg, and earlier development information pointed to a claimed payload of around 1000kg.
