2026 Mitsubishi Pajero price out, battles Prado, Everest

The 2026 Mitsubishi Pajero has arrived with pricing starting at $68,490 before on-road costs, and buyers have already placed more than 3000 pre-orders before yesterday’s official reveal. The new 4WD reaches Australian showrooms this December.

Three Grades, One Target

The entry-level GLS comes in at $68,490 with five seats or $69,990 as a seven-seater. The mid-tier Exceed sits at $79,990, while the range-topping GSR commands $84,990—both available with seven seats only. All variants undercut the equivalent Toyota Prado substantially, though they sit just above the Ford Everest V6 diesel.

Buyers receive a conditional 10-year/200,000km warranty, though owners must service the vehicle at a Mitsubishi dealer or the coverage reverts to five years/100,000km. Capped-price servicing extends up to 10 years, with workshop visits required every 15,000km or 12 months.

Platform and Powertrain

The new Pajero shares its underpinnings with the current Triton ute, using a ladder-frame chassis instead of the monocoque construction found in recent generations. Higher-quality steel reinforces the chassis to improve rigidity, cornering stability, and durability for rough terrain.

The rear suspension from the Triton has been swapped for a sophisticated five-link setup, making the Pajero more composed on-road. Under the bonnet sits a 2.4-litre diesel four-cylinder with a single variable geometry turbocharger—an evolution of the Triton’s bi-turbo unit. Outputs reach 150kW and 480Nm.

Mitsubishi replaced the old six-speed automatic with a new eight-speed unit to smooth the drive and reduce fuel consumption. The engine also uses AdBlue for lower emissions and improved efficiency.

Off-Road Credentials

The Pajero can tow up to 3500kg and comes with Trailer Load Assist, which detects trailer sway and adjusts power and braking to each wheel to stabilize the rig. Roof loading capacity stands at 300kg static or 100kg dynamic.

Super Select 4WD-II delivers part-time four-wheel drive for on-road use, full-time 4WD for all conditions, a rear differential lock, and low-range transfer case for serious off-road work. Seven selectable drive modes cover Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

Rally-bred Active Yaw Control comes standard, managing torque delivery to left and right wheels for better cornering stability. It pairs with active stability and traction control plus anti-lock brakes for slippery surfaces.

Interior and Technology

The third row accommodates adults, sliding up to 150mm with a tumble mechanism for easy access. Ample headroom and foot space exist beneath the front seats. With the third row folded, the boot holds 519 litres—less than the Prado and Everest.

Dual 14.3-inch screens dominate the dashboard—one for infotainment, the other for driver instruments.
