The 2027 Atlas will be equipped with the Gen 5 version of the EA888 engine, first seen in the 2026 Tiguan. Output rises to 282 horsepower and 258 lb‑ft of torque, a gain of 13 hp over the prior model but a loss of 15 lb‑ft of torque. The reduction reflects stricter emissions rules that limit fuel‑rich cooling strategies previously used to boost low‑end torque.
